Just got one of those reissues of a 1958 Dan Electro Longhorn. I like my other one but this one is more period. The only part that is not is that the knobs are plastic rather than wood.

Hi Fuzz, how do you like the tone from this bass? I had a play around with one in my local music store and it definitely has a cool look, but I wasn't hugely impressed by the sound, decent but nothing fancy.

i remember seeing nrbq one time on the local tv station and the bass player had a dano dc bass. i liked the look of it . couldnt find one for years. then ofcourse jimmy page played one once. next thing you know the few around got really expensive. so i bought a dc 3. then a 2 pickup model. then the one i transplanted a variax into.. my brother wanted to learn to play again. he took a few lessons when he was a kid.

do i loaned him the dc. and a vox amp. a newer cambridge, anyhow then my niece got it. when i got it back it was a mess. they have a little dog that pisses on everything in range and he got the dano multiple times.

anyway i got it back cleaned it up put on new strings..................it plays great!!!

whoda thought it could not only take a beating but a peeing as well :)

I will try the bass out today at a gig. I don't have any pictures to post and I tried getting off the net but it wouldn't post. It's a dead grey with outline in brown. The tuners are the same and so is the bridge. My Longhorns compare bodies as the same size and the neck is the same too with no differnece in action, The only difference I can see between the two is the volume-tone knobs are a different style. (pointers rather than round) I'l try going to guitar shows and see if I can get some wooden knobs. All the demos on Youtube they are all doing "Funk" and "Blues". But out of a big amp with power the Dano rocks (at least my other one does) and is an easy bass to play.

Yes, a short scale bass. You can play cords on it and it does not blut out. Out of oa big amp with good EG it's great. Out of a small amp with less power it sounds puny. Good punk rock bass guitar for the modern guys and effects go with it well. I prefer shot scale bass guitars but don't mind a long scale is the music calls for it. If you can try one out in the music store give it a try but put a lot of bottom on the EQ. It will sound much butter that way. Tried it out on Sunday and we were a 3 piece and it filled the gaps well.

Yes, That's the one. She's a peach!, Mine seems a little bit less colorful and does not have a gloss shine to it. The hardward is has no shine to it and looks aged. I am in the market for wooden knobs. I hope they fit. My friend Don has some stories about restarting up the Dan Electrio guitar line and such but lost his password to log on and tell us. Hey Don! (I know he checks in)

Yeah, it's me Fuzz. I decided that it was time to step back in. Every thing has changed for the better. Now I can get info and share what little I know. But it is really about sharing. There isn't a person here that doesn't have something to share, even an opinion can be enlightening. As in, a case for the longhorn. They don't sell them with cases, but tweed hard shell cases are sold on ebay, perfect fit and around $80.00. I do love mine. It was tough when I played in The Torquays, I used to take mine as a back up, we had all matching Blonde/Tortoise Fenders and matching Blonde Showmans. I loved my PBass but the longhorn was more fun. But it saw very little stage use. The PBass is tucked away now and the longhorn is the go to bass.
